Hochschild Cohomology and Linckelmann Cohomology for Blocks of Finite Groups

Let G be a finite group, F an algebraically closed field of finite characteristic p, and let B be a block of FG. We show that the Hochschild and Linckelmann cohomology rings of B are isomorphic, modulo their radicals, in the cases where (1) B is cyclic and (2) B is arbitrary and G either a nilpotent group or a Frobenius group (p odd). (The second case is a consequence of a more general result)....

Finite Groups Acting Linearly: Hochschild Cohomology and the Cup Product

When a finite group acts linearly on a complex vector space, the natural semi-direct product of the group and the polynomial ring over the space forms a skew group algebra. This algebra plays the role of the coordinate ring of the resulting orbifold and serves as a substitute for the ring of invariant polynomials from the viewpoint of geometry and physics. Its Hochschild cohomology predicts var...

Hochschild Homology and Global Dimension

We prove that for certain classes of graded algebras (Koszul, local, cellular), infinite global dimension implies that Hochschild homology does not vanish in high degrees, provided the characteristic of the ground field is zero. Our proof uses Igusa’s formula relating the Euler characteristic of relative cyclic homology to the graded Cartan determinant.

Hochschild Cohomology versus De Rham Cohomology without Formality Theorems

We exploit the Fedosov-Weinstein-Xu (FWX) resolution proposed in q-alg/9709043 to establish an isomorphism between the ring of Hochschild cohomology of the quantum algebra of functions on a symplectic manifold M and the ring H(M,C((~))) of De Rham cohomology of M with the coefficient field C((~)) without making use of any version of formality theorem. We also show that the Gerstenhaber bracket ...

On Monomial Algebras of Finite Global Dimension

Let G be an associative monomial k-algebra. If G is assumed to be finitely presented, then either G contains a free subalgebra on two monomials or else G has polynomial growth. If instead G is assumed to have finite global dimension, then either G contains a free subalgebra or else G has a finite presentation and polynomial growth. Also, a graded Hopf algebra with generators in degree one and r...
